Rapunzel’s Tower Coming to Storybook Land Canal Boats at Disneyland

A new miniature of Rapunzel’s Tower from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Tangled is coming to Storybook Land Canal Boats at Disneyland. Debuting during the Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration, this addition will be located between the Patchwork Quilt and Toad Hall when the attraction reopens this winter.
The slender tower features a shingled turret and multiple windows elevated above the ground, surrounded by lush greenery and boulders. Wanted posters featuring Flynn Rider adorn the stone wall, each humorously depicting his nose differently. A secluded dock with a boat inspired by the film adds to the immersive scene, enhanced by twinkling lights winding up a trellis on the nearby bridge.
Guests floating by during the day will hear a charming arrangement of "When Will My Life Begin?" escaping from Rapunzel’s Tower, while at dusk, "I See the Light" will play alongside winking lights reminiscent of the film’s iconic lantern scene.
Storybook Land Canal Boats has a rich history dating back to Walt Disney himself, who had a fascination with miniatures that inspired the attraction. The ride originally opened as Canal Boats of the World on Disneyland's opening day in 1955 and was reimagined in 1956 as Storybook Land Canal Boats, featuring detailed miniature homes and scenes from classic fairy tales at a 1:12 scale.
Tours along the canal are narrated by expert cast members who highlight famous landmarks like Cinderella’s castle and Geppetto’s workshop. Over time, the attraction has evolved to include scenes and themes from Disney Animation classics such as Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Frozen, enchanting visitors for decades with its handcrafted miniatures and storytelling.
The attraction marquee spells 'Storybook Land' using a distinctive French landscaping method called 'parterre', forming giant living letters with colorful plants. A red and white striped lighthouse near the queue was once a ticket booth when individual attraction tickets were sold. The boats vary in colors and designs inspired by European barges, each named after a Disney Animation character.
A notable Easter egg is visible when passing through Monstro the whale’s open mouth, which shows a line of soot marks where Pinocchio lit a fire to cause Monstro to sneeze him and Geppetto to safety. The dwellings have functioning doors to help maintenance staff replacing tiny lights, and during the holidays, winter decorations such as wreaths and frosted snow add seasonal charm.
The miniature magic of Storybook Land Canal Boats continues to delight fans. The new Rapunzel’s Tower promises to be an enchanting addition that beautifully honors the attraction’s history and storytelling legacy as guests embark on this timeless journey.
