In 2026, the iconic Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will reopen with new magic – and today, new details have been shared about what to expect the next time guests take to the tracks in search of adventure.
There’s Gold in That There Mountain
The story of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad dates back to the early days of America’s first major gold rush. When Barnabas T. Bullion struck gold in the Big Thunder region, he envisioned a future full of riches and quickly started the Big Thunder Mountain Company.
However, those shiny dreams came with a cost. Bullion soon found himself battling the forces of nature as strange and unexplainable events began to happen. Machines failed and cave-ins shut down the mines.
No matter how deep the miners dug, the forces of Big Thunder resisted. When the attraction reopens, guests boarding the runaway trains will get to experience just how wild this wilderness can get.
Shine and Polish on a Magic Kingdom Classic
Mountain attractions at Disney Parks worldwide are beloved for their stories, thrills, and memories. Big Thunder Mountain at Disney World is undergoing a thorough refurbishment to maintain its classic charm and ensure thrilling rides for years to come.
New Magic Thunderin’ In
In addition to the familiar excitement, Big Thunder Mountain will reopen with new magic for fans to discover.
One captivating moment comes when trains travel underground to spectacular natural caverns. These caverns feature phosphorescent pools that shimmer and illuminate iridescent stalagmites and stalactites.
While the Rainbow Caverns appear beautiful, they hold a menacing secret. The ominous rumble from deep within the mountain suggests guests might not be entirely welcome.
