New Color Palette for Cinderella Castle Unveiled

For over 50 years, Cinderella Castle has been the iconic centerpiece welcoming guests at Magic Kingdom's Main Street, U.S.A. At the recent “Beyond the Spires: An Insider Look at Disney Castles” panel at Destination D23, Disney Imagineers reflected on past overlays and color changes while revealing a new color palette inspired by the castle's classic and original design.
The updated paint scheme will include shades of gray, cream, blue, and touches of gold designed to enhance the castle's architectural details. Though refinements to the paint design are still ongoing, the Imagineers emphasized the extensive research and care involved in this project.
A Royal Palette
Across Disney parks worldwide, six castles serve as iconic landmarks, symbolizing the magic of Disney. At Walt Disney World, the castle traditionally features deep blues and radiant golds, chosen to reflect Florida’s sunshine and make the castle shimmer from every angle.
The paint used on the castle is rigorously tested for UV and weather durability to ensure colors remain vibrant for years. For hard-to-reach places like rooftops, a high-performance automotive paint is utilized for its durability and longevity, helping minimize maintenance.
The sheen of paint finishes is carefully selected to add realism. Stone areas are finished with a low sheen for a natural effect, while roofs and gold accents have higher gloss for sparkle. Gold accents are strategically placed on spires to catch the last sunlight reflections.
