Hualālai Chung’s Journey from Aulani to the Big Screen

Hualālai Chung will be splashing onto the big screen in Disney’s “Moana 2” as Moni, a new storyteller. But before joining Moana’s crew and beginning to share the legends and lore of Motunui, he started his Disney journey at Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa.
Hualālai is an expert fire knife performer for Aulani’s KA WA‘A – A Lū‘au since it opened in 2016. He transforms into a storyteller of Hawaiian culture through song and dance, reflecting the heart of Moana’s story that is deeply rooted in community.
Having practiced fire knife since the age of three, Hualālai shared that performing has helped prepare him for his role as Moni by refining his storytelling skills for the big screen. The world premiere of “Moana 2” in Ko Olina gave him the special opportunity to share his ‘ohana and community with the world.
As a resident expert, Hualālai’s favorite parts of Aulani include the delicious food offerings. His go-to treats are refreshing shave ice from Pāpālua Shave Ice and the iconic Mickey musubi from The Ulu Cafe.
Hualālai Chung brings Moni to life in “Moana 2,” opening exclusively in theaters on November 27.
